The short answer

The short answer

Islam permits being introduced to a potential spouse through an intermediary. It has always worked that way: a relative, a family friend, a matchmaker, a mosque noticeboard. Zowaaj is an intermediary that operates at a larger scale, which matters when your community is spread across several countries.

What makes a process halal or not is conduct, not medium. So Zowaaj is designed to make the halal path the easy one and the alternative difficult: marriage-only intent, verified members, photo privacy by default, and a product you can show to your parents without discomfort.

Marriage intent only

There is no casual mode on Zowaaj. Members join stating that they are looking for a spouse, profiles ask about marriage expectations rather than lifestyle preferences, and there is no anonymous browsing for entertainment. Accounts that are clearly not there to marry are removed.

Zowaaj does not support mutah or temporary arrangements. The platform is for permanent nikah only.

No khalwa, and nothing that encourages it

Khalwa, private seclusion between a man and a woman who are not mahram, is not permitted, and no app can police what people do offline. What an app can do is avoid pushing you toward it.

Zowaaj does not encourage secret courtship. It has no disappearing messages, no late-night engagement prompts, and no design that treats family involvement as an obstacle. Members are encouraged to move to a supervised meeting, with family present or nearby, rather than to an extended private correspondence.

Modesty and photo privacy

Photos on Zowaaj stay blurred until you actively choose to reveal them to a specific person, and you can leave them blurred through the first conversations. You are not required to upload a photo at all to use the app.

Profiles are not published on the open internet and are not indexed by search engines. Your details are visible to matched members inside the app, not to the world. For many Muslim women this is the difference between using a platform and refusing to.

Verification and honesty

Lying about yourself to secure a marriage is a serious wrong in Islamic terms, and it is also the most common complaint about Muslim marriage platforms. Zowaaj identity verifies every account before it can message, which removes the fake profiles that make these apps unsafe.

Profile fields are structured to invite specific answers about practice, family, previous marriages and expectations, because vagueness is where most of the harm starts.

Your family, your wali, your marja

Zowaaj is built to be shown to your family. Profiles read like a biodata rather than a social media page, so a parent can look at a shortlist and understand exactly what is being proposed. Many members do precisely that before any meeting is arranged.

Zowaaj is not a religious authority and does not issue rulings. It is not affiliated with any marja, jamaat, mosque or council. On questions of fiqh, follow your own marja or scholar. What we can say is that nothing in the product requires you to act against their guidance.

Built for the way
Muslims actually marry

Every feature exists because a general Muslim app does not have it.

AI Compatibility Matching

Matched on sub-sect, values, practice and lifestyle rather than distance alone.

Sub-Sect Filters

Ithna Ashari, Zaidi, Ismaili, Dawoodi Bohra and Sunni madhhab. No other app offers this.

Verified Profiles

Every account is identity checked before it can message. No fake accounts.

Photo Privacy

Your photos stay blurred until you choose to reveal them to a specific person.

Three steps, and
your family is part of them

Designed for intention, not for time spent in the app.

Build a real profile

Practice, sub-sect, family expectations and what you actually want from a marriage.

Get matched on values

Zowaaj weighs compatibility across countries, not just whoever happens to be nearby.

Bring in your family

Shortlist inside the app, then take it to your wali or parents before you meet.

Zowaaj is an introduction platform for people seeking marriage, built so that a halal process is the default: marriage-only intent, identity verification, photo privacy, no support for temporary marriage, and a product designed to be shared with family. Whether any individual's conduct is halal depends on how they behave, on the app and off it.
Being introduced through an intermediary is permitted. Scholars distinguish between the tool and the behaviour. An app used to find a spouse, with modest conversation, no khalwa and family involvement, is not the same thing as a dating app used for an open-ended relationship.
No. Zowaaj is for permanent marriage only.
No. Photos are optional, and any photo you do upload stays blurred until you choose to reveal it to a specific person.
Yes, and it is encouraged. Profiles are written to be readable by a parent or guardian, and most members bring family into the process before meeting anybody.
No. Zowaaj is an independent app and is not affiliated with any marja, mosque, jamaat or council, and it does not issue religious rulings. Follow your own marja or scholar on questions of fiqh.
Every account goes through identity verification before it can message anyone, and reported accounts are reviewed and removed.
